Australia announces Wales will be training venue for ParaOlympics 2012

Whilst it is too early to say where in Wales the Australian team will establish their base, but it is a great tribute to the sporting facilities in Wales.

With bases such as the National Pool in South Wales, the indoor training track in Cardiff there are excellent faclities in Wales.

Credit Crunch hits 2012 Olympic Funding

The credit crunch is impacting upon contributions from the private sector towards the 2012 Olympics Budget.

This means that the Olympic Delivery Authority will have to draw from a £2bn cash contingency fund.

LendLease has reported difficulties in raising half the funds needed to fund completion of the 3,000 room complex.

Apparently, funds are available but under very harsh terms. With the British Governement announcing no raise in the £9.3bn budget and with costs rising fast, the ODA must surely be under significant pressure although the ODA remain firm in their commitment to meeting budget requirements.

It is intended that after the 2012 Olympics, the site will benefit from a huge office complex as well as 3,300 new homes. It is hoped that £250m will be returned back to the budget after the Olympics.

Contract Awarded

The Olympic Delivery Authority has awarded a contract to Edmund Nuttal for the development of 40 hectares of park space in the Northern part of the olympic complex. Work will start on the site in Spring 2009.

The project represents one of the largest urban parkland development projects in Europe for over 150 years.
